Spiritual wonderful Borobudur Temple – Wow! Difficult to find without some local knowledge but well worth seeking out. This incredible structure was unearthed by Stanford Raffles in 1812, what a sight it must have been. Situated on high ground with stunning views of a neighbouring (active) volcano the location alone is enough to inspire without even considering the wonderful Temple.
The advice to visitors is, out of respect to the temple, to walk around it 3 times before climbing to higher the levels. I strongly recommend you do this, I am not a spiritual person but I certainly enjoyed a spiritual experience on my way around. Find out for yourself! The temple itself is a wonder of detail, look and you will see more and more. Amazing!
The only downside is the ambush of curio sellers that will pounce on you from the moment you step out of your car. They do not go into the confines of the temple but will be waiting for you when you emerge, you then have to run the gauntlet of an entire market of sellers on the way to the exit. It kind of ruins the tranquility of the temple experience.
Seek this place out, you never know what you will find.
